Should You Use Templates or Scripts for Cold Market Prospecting?
May 20, 2022One of the most frequently asked questions I get from prospects is, "Does your company give us scripts to use?", and the short answer is, "No".
The reason being is, in order to cut through the clutter and CONNECT with your prospect, you need to make it as personalized as possible.
For example, the below script for a 2nd-Degree Military Veteran on LinkedIn is personalized. But, what if, instead, you were targeting a teacher?
If you used an IDENTICAL "script" for each job title, you'd get a lot of upset people who are annoyed that you called them a teacher when they are not a teacher.
Script: "Hey, I saw on your profile that you're a Military Veteran and the work you do means a lot to me since you put others first, plus we have a shared connection, so I'd appreciate you accepting my connection request."
That's why we like templates.
For example, in the below message, yes, you have to put in a little work, but we give you a rough draft to start off with that'll be more effective for you in the long run if you adjust the wording based on your target market.
Template: "Hey (first name), I saw on your profile that you're a (job title) and the work you do means a lot to me since you (compliment them on the value they provide), plus we have a shared connection, so I'd appreciate you accepting my connection request."
"Scripts" don't work the best, "templates" do.
